My Mother, My Rock

Mrs. Diana Henry Blossman
September 25, 1942 - December 23, 2024
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Diana Henry Blossman on December 23, 2024, at the age of 82 in Austin, Texas.
Born on September 25, 1942, in Houma, Louisiana, Diana lived a life filled with grace, laughter, and unwavering devotion to her family, friends, and community. Her warmth and vibrant spirit touched countless lives and left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
After graduating from Terrebonne High School, where she was a marching band member, Diana attended the prestigious Charity Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated in 1961 and pursued her passion for caring for others. She began her career in the postpartum unit, offering compassionate support to mothers and newborns. During this time, she met the love of her life, Robert Blossman, a medical school student. Their shared dedication to healing brought them together, and they married on February 16, 1963.
Shortly after, the couple relocated to Minnesota, where Robert completed his surgical residency at the Mayo Clinic. Diana’s unwavering dedication continued as she supported Robert in establishing Summit Avenue Clinic in Fort Worth while lovingly raising their three children. Diana’s passions were as varied as her vibrant personality. She was an avid tennis player and a proud member of the "Shady Ladies" tennis team at Shady Oaks Country Club.
When Robert transitioned from private practice to full-time active duty as a Colonel in the USAF, Diana embraced her role as a supportive military wife. She guided their family through the challenges of military life with strength and grace, including a memorable chapter in Germany. Upon Robert’s retirement from the military, they returned home to Louisiana, where Diana continued to share her warmth and love with everyone she met.
From a young age, Diana displayed a remarkable talent for sewing, knitting, and crocheting, which blossomed into a lifelong passion. She later channeled her creativity into Nandi’s Knitting Nook, a craft store she co-owned with her sister, Nancy Hamner, in Houma. Her love for Mardi Gras shone brightly when she proudly served as a Maid in the royal court alongside her daughter, Wendy, as Nancy was crowned Queen of Hyacinthians XLIV in 1995. Diana’s zest for life and her extraordinary ability to turn everyday moments into cherished memories will remain unforgettable to all who knew her.
After Robert’s retirement, the couple moved to Las Vegas, enjoying their time together before eventually settling in Austin, Texas, to be closer to their children and grandchildren. In Austin, Diana welcomed Daisy, a Maltese who quickly became the heart of her world. More than a pet, Daisy was her unwavering companion, trusted confidante, and greatest source of comfort. Whether snuggling on the couch, playing fetch, or even dancing together, Daisy brought Diana endless joy and unconditional love—a bond that will be cherished forever.
Diana was a devoted wife to Robert Blossman, a loving mother to Wendy, Eric, and Bonnie, and a doting grandmother to Whitney, Zachary, Madison, Lauren, and Ella. She also embraced the role of great-grandmother to Rhythm Overbey with pride and joy. Diana’s family was her heart and soul, and she was the most emotionally supportive parent, always willing to do anything in the world to protect and uplift her loved ones. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and unconditional love.
Diana is survived by her beloved Daisy; her children, Wendy Blossman, Eric Blossman, and Bon Blossman Myer; her cherished grandchildren, Whitney Overbey, Zachary Myer, Madison Blossman, Lauren Blossman, and Ella Blossman; and her treasured great-grandchild, Rhythm Overbey. She is also survived by her brother, Keith Henry, and many loving nephews and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Colonel Robert C. Blossman, MD; her dear sister, Nancy Hamner; her mother, Lucille Boudreaux Henry; and her father, Nelson Henry. We find comfort in knowing she is reunited with them, surrounded by love and peace.
Diana’s remarkable life will be celebrated on May 17th, 2025, at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband, Colonel Robert C. Blossman, MD, in the National Military Cemetery at Fort Sam Houston, a fitting tribute to their enduring love and Robert’s service to the country. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Austin Humane Society in honor of Diana’s deep love for animals.
Diana Blossman will be profoundly missed, but her love, light, and the memory of her inseparable bond with Daisy and her family will remain in our hearts forever.
